ISBN: 0345496981
240 Pages, Hardcover
Seducing The Boys Club is a biography of Nina DiSesa’s climb to the top of the agency world. As Chairman of the flagship office of the largest advertising network in the world, Nina address how women can adapt and get ahead in an environment that is typically associated with a 'boys club'.
She opens the book with 3 simple facts:
- Forty years after the feminist revolution, fewer than 2 percent of Fortune 1000 CEOs are women.
- The playing field is not level.
- You need to get over this.
She ends the book with 5 simple tips for women when managing their career:
- Don’t become drunk with power
- Don’t stop reading the room
- Avoid becoming a real bitch
- Remember – always make rain
- Don’t forget to be better than men
If you want more detail on what each of these tips really mean – you’ll have to read the book. But in summary, she advocates seduction and manipulation as tools to managing upward mobility while maintaining grace and integrity.
My 2 Cents
As much as I didn’t want to be; I’m a fan of this book. Seduction and manipulation are really just her creative expressions for promoting character, charisma and fair but clever play. I found the book to be inspiring, funny and an overall enjoyable read.
I’d highly recommend it for young women trying to figure out how to manage their career and for established women wondering if balance is really possible. She calls it like she sees it. You may be offended at times, you may not agree with everything, but with a step back, the big picture is easy to see.
