Thought Leadership Groups


CMA Councils and Committees provide individuals from CMA member companies with opportunities to network, discuss key issues and emerging trends, share thought leadership, shape ongoing development of industry self-regulation, and help establish best practices on a variety of topics impacting marketing.

About CMA Councils

Councils are comprised of thought leaders from brands, agencies, service providers or not-for-profit organizations, with a minimum of eight years of experience in a key area of marketing. 

The Council term runs from September to August. Members can expect to make a commitment of 4-6 hours per month and are required to attend at least 80% of the meetings, which are held monthly between September and June. Members sign up to participate for the period of one year, which can be renewed.

Council member activities include:

  • Providing strategic insights and tools, including developing original thought leadership content following monthly meetings (blogs, articles, and white papers).
  • Helping shape CMA events by providing guidance on themes and content and serving as moderators and panelists.
  • Promoting CMA thought leadership content and events through their networks and social channels.

 

 

About CMA Committees

Committees provide input and advice to assist the public policy and advocacy work of the Association and help educate marketers about the rules and regulations governing marketing activities. At the core of this work is the Canadian Marketing Code of Ethics and Standards, and a series of best practices and compliance guides.

Members include senior marketers and other professionals whose expertise is aligned to the priorities of the Committee, such as lawyers, compliance experts, technology experts or HR leaders.

Committees meet at least six to eight times per year. Members are required to attend at least 80% of meetings and serve a two or three-year term that can be renewed.

 

 

Council members enjoy several unique benefits, including:

  • Networking and relationship-building opportunities with other marketing professionals.
  • Waived application fees for the Chartered Marketer (CM) designation.

Council members:

  • Commit to a minimum of one Council term (September to August).
  • Attend 80% of meetings throughout the term.
  • Actively participate in meetings and Council initiatives, including the development of thought leadership content.
  • Attend Council-related events.
  • Promote CMA programming within your organization and network.
  • Apply for the Chartered Marketer (CM) designation (through the Executive Advanced Standing path if you meet the qualifications) within the first three months of serving on a Council.
