CMA Appears Before ETHI Committee on PIPEDA Review

CMA’s Wally Hill, VP of Government and Consumer Affairs, appeared before the ETHI parliamentary committee on May 11, 2017 to voice CMA’s views on the committee’s study of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, PIPEDA.

“I want to underline that a review of the OPC’s investigations, case resolutions and published findings, demonstrates that PIPEDA works well in its current form. As such, we need to look at ways of addressing current challenges not through more specific legislative provisions – which run the risk of hampering innovation - but by enhancing the efficacy of PIPEDA through the innovative use of the tools that are provided in the existing law, and assessing the impact of the new powers granted to the Commissioner as recently as 2015.”
