CMA wrote to the federal Minister of Health, the Hon. Jane Philpott, to communicate CMA’s interest to participate in any consultations regarding the Government’s intention to introduce new restrictions on the commercial marketing of unhealthy food and beverages to children. CMA has long believed that special attention should be given to sensitive issues surrounding marketing to children and to teenagers. In fact, Section K and L CMA’s Code of Ethics provides marketers with clear guidance on appropriate business practices when marketing to these demographics. CMA also advised the Minister that the Association continues to support the industry’s self-regulatory initiative in this field, the Children’s Food & Beverage Advertising Initiative.
