CMA Welcomes Ontario Government Commitment to Digital Services and Innovative Skills Training

Toronto, ON – April 11, 2019 – The Canadian Marketing Association (CMA) today welcomed the Ontario government’s commitment to create a transparent, user-friendly data policy that will drive innovation and ensure public trust by protecting the privacy of citizens and businesses.

“As a longstanding leader in developing privacy guidance and tools to help Canadian marketers maintain high professional standards, we are pleased with the government’s plan to help citizens and businesses harness the value of data to drive the economy while ensuring consumer confidence,” said John Wiltshire, the CMA’s president and CEO. “Good privacy policy is good business.”
The government’s “Digital first strategy”, unveiled in its 2019 budget, will modernize services through better use of digital and shared‐service models.

“We look forward to participating in the government’s consultations on this topic,” Wiltshire added.

The CMA also supports the government’s intention to ensure a skilled workforce so that Ontarians are trained for the jobs of the future.

“Companies expect their new hires to be more knowledgeable than ever in order to succeed in an innovation economy. Ensuring people have the right aptitudes, competencies and experience is critical to success,” Wiltshire noted. “In the marketing profession, as in every profession, technology is a game-changer. This is why the CMA provides ongoing professional development and offers a transformational training platform to enable up-and-coming marketers to earn their Chartered Marketer designation.”
